You were never meant to grow alone. At The Refuge, we believe real discipleship happens through relationship, guidance, and accountability.
A Spiritual Sponsor is a mature believer who will walk alongside you, helping you grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ, stay consistent in your faith, and navigate your discipleship journey with wisdom and support.
Stage 1: The New Believer (Babe in Christ)
A new believer in Jesus Christ who has been saved by faith and is beginning their spiritual journey. They are learning the foundations of the faith, developing basic spiritual habits, and becoming rooted in the Word and the Church.

1. Bible Education - Grow in understanding, not just reading. (2 Timothy 2:15)
2. Worship With Believers - Stay connected, don’t isolate. (Hebrews 10:25)
3. Build Strong Relationships - Walk with mature believers who sharpen you. (Proverbs 13:20).
Stage 2: Child (The Growing Believer)
A believer who is actively building their faith and getting involved, but still developing consistency. They are learning to prioritize Jesus Christ over life’s distractions and moving toward spiritual stability.

1. Put God First - Make Him the center, not just a priority. (Matthew 6:33)
2. Stay Consistent - Build daily habits in prayer, Word, and fellowship. (1 Timothy 4:7)
3. Choose Obedience - Follow God over distractions, even when it costs. (Luke 9:23)
Stage 3: The Disciple (Committed Follower)
A committed follower of Christ who is growing in maturity and intentionally helping others grow. They are consistent in their walk, actively serving, and beginning to disciple others.

1. Stay Submitted - Remain under spiritual authority and accountability. (Hebrews 13:17)
2. Stay Active in Ministry - Serve, disciple others, and use your gifts consistently. (Ephesians 4:12)
3. Stay Spirit-Led - Walk in obedience to the Holy Spirit daily. (Galatians 5:25)
Stage 4: The Leader (5-Fold Functioning)
A mature believer walking in their calling with impact. They are leading, equipping, and building others while remaining submitted, humble, and Spirit-led in their ministry.

1. Stay Rooted in Intimacy - Keep your relationship with Jesus Christ first.
2. Remain Submitted - Stay under covering and accountability.
3. Guard Your Heart - Reject pride, stay humble and pure.
Stage 5: (Apostolic Stage)
A fully surrendered believer who is sent to advance God’s Kingdom. They reproduce disciples, equip leaders, and carry a burden for souls while staying anchored in God’s purpose.
Key to Spiritual Growth
1. Stay Deeply Dependent on the Holy Spirit - Never replace intimacy with experience. Let Him lead every decision. (John 16:13)
2. Multiply and Release Others - Focus on developing leaders, not just doing ministry. (2 Timothy 2:2)
3. Guard Your Heart and Humility - Stay low before God as He lifts you before people. (1 Peter 5:6)
